Liposuction, also known as liposhaping-liposculpture-lipoline or lipoplasty, is a commonly performed and a very safe surgical procedure which is used to remove areas of fat that can not be removed with diet and exercise. It can be done on abdomen, hips and thighs, inside of the knees, ankles, upper arms, neck and back.
A fluid mixture containing a salty solution, local anesthetic and adrenaline will be injected into the fatty area being treated. This new technique is called ‘’wet liposuction’’ and helps reduce bleeding, bruising and swelling and makes it easier to remove the fat. The surgeon makes a cut in the skin and inserts a thin metal tube. The tube is moved vigorously inside the fatty tissue to break it up. The fat and fluid is sucked out.
In most cases the patient can go back to the normal daily life the next day after the surgery. Staying in the hospital might not be necessary. The patient should wear an elastic garment or bandages for three to four weeks.
